Responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of software used in automatic control of paint and dispense systems. Plan and develop scope for PLC/HMI programming, which includes commissioning, startup, and optimization of the control systems for paint and dispense applications. Create and revise electrical hardware schematics and panel drawings. Ideal candidate to have at least 3 years of control engineering experience – experienced in the development of software for PLC, GUI, HMI and Robots (preferably Allen Bradley and Siemens).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical clarification and guidance for customers, vendors and suppliers
  • Communicate with the project manager and direct manager concerning progress or problems of all customer controls solutions
  • Help in the development and validation of new control features and improvement of current products and solutions
  • Analyze reports of technical problems, identify root cause and determine if a change in design strategy is required
  • Maintains high ethical standards of conduct for all engineering activities
  • Help in the creation and implementation of Software and Controls standards

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven experience in multiple PLC programming languages such as Allen Bradley and Siemens
  • Experienced in development of software for PLC, GUI, HMI, and Robots
  • Experienced technical knowledge of fieldbus communication (ControlNet, ProfiBus, DeviceNet, ModBus, Ethernet/IP, CanBus)
  • Proficient in HMI applications developed in VB.net, MS Visual Studio, and PanelView+. Knowledge of WinCC Flexible, iFix, and other HMI languages desirable
  • Understanding of paint and dispense application technology
  • General knowledge of paint process using bell speed, high voltage, shaping air, fluid control via gear pumps or regulators/flowmeters a plus
  • Experience with FANUC Robotics a plus
  • Ability to work under pressure and still meet deadlines without cutting corners or endangering safety
  • Strong electro-mechanical skills: ability to read and develop fluid and pneumatic schematics and wiring diagrams

Additional Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical equipment; measurement tools and machining techniques
  • Understanding of design for hazardous locations (Class 1, Div. 1)
  • Knowledge of RIA standards & robotic paint application equipment and processes (FANUC, ABB, Kawasaki)
  • Experience with common electrical codes applicable to automation systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Experience with Quality Systems (e.g. ISO 9000, QS 9000, ISO 14001)
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards along with GD&T
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience at an OEM, in a systems engineering / design environment
  • Proficiency in French, Spanish languages a plus

Formal Education and/or Training Required

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred
  • Will consider equivalent experience and vocational school

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Deskwork – majority of time spent sitting/standing at computer screen, some walking to lab or warehouse
  • Requires travel to outside locations; may include international travel (approx. 50%)
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials such as paint, solvents, adhesives
  • Exposure to electricity
  • Possibility of lifting heavy objects up to 40 lbs
  • Must be able to legally work in the USA. No sponsorship currently.

  • Know how to identify and react in dangerous situations
  • Know how to analyze environmental and safety risks and implement actions
  • PPE may be required as needed
